Mobile truck repair on the I-10 and I-8 corridor: an exit-by-exit guide
Casa Grande is where I-8 ends and I-10 keeps going, which makes it the natural base for mobile truck repair between Phoenix and Tucson. Within the base zone, the I-10 exits from 194 to 208 and the I-8 exits from 178 back to 167, the call-out is $150 to $350 and labor is $125 to $185 an hour with a one-hour minimum. Nights, weekends, and holidays the call-out is $250 to $500. Everything past that is quoted by the mile on the call, before a truck leaves. This page is the map: which exits have what, where the parking is, where there is nothing at all, and how long the drive actually takes.
The junction
I-8 ends at I-10 at I-8 exit 178, and the traffic feeds onto I-10 at exit 199, one mile east of the Jimmie Kerr Boulevard interchange at exit 198, all inside Casa Grande city limits. That single interchange is why this corridor exists: San Diego and Yuma freight on I-8 meets the Phoenix to Tucson stream on I-10 right here, and both of them pass the Casa Grande and Eloy distribution docks on the way through.
I-10 eastbound: Casa Grande to Marana
| Exit | What is there | Zone |
|---|---|---|
| 190, McCartney Rd | North side of Casa Grande, industrial frontage | Base |
| 194, Florence Blvd (SR 287) | Business loop into town, the Walmart and Lucid side | Base |
| 198, Jimmie Kerr Blvd (SR 84) | Union Pacific line, industrial frontage, one mile from the I-8 split | Base |
| 199 | I-8 west to Gila Bend, Yuma, and San Diego | Base |
| 200, Sunland Gin Rd | Petro Eloy #0306 (175 truck spaces, 4 service bays, Blue Beacon, CAT scale) and Love’s (CAT scale, bulk DEF); Love’s Truck Care at 8212 S Sunland Gin Rd | Base |
| 203, Toltec Rd | TA Eloy and Love’s (CAT scale, truck wash, laundry, dog park) | Base |
| 208, Sunshine Blvd | Pilot; last Eloy exit eastbound | Base |
| 211, SR 87 | Coolidge and Florence turnoff; ADOT’s dust radar tower | Quoted plus mileage |
| 219, Picacho Peak Rd | Picacho Peak State Park, no truck parking of consequence | Quoted plus mileage |
| 226, Red Rock | Last Pinal County exit | Quoted plus mileage |
| 232, Pinal Air Park Rd | Pinal Airpark, aircraft storage | Quoted by the mile |
| 236, Marana Rd | Main Marana exit | Quoted by the mile |
| 240, Tangerine Rd, 246 Cortaro Rd, 248 Ina Rd | The Tucson-side end of the run | Quoted by the mile |
Lot details come from the operators’ own location pages. The important pattern for a driver: all of the real parking on this stretch is in the ten miles between exit 200 and exit 208. Past the Pilot at 208 there is no full travel center until Tucson. Love’s, Pilot and Flying J, and TA and Petro each publish their location lists, and none of the three has a store at Picacho, Red Rock, or Marana.
The dust detection zone, mileposts 209 to 219
Immediately east of exit 208 the highway enters a ten mile stretch that ADOT instrumented specifically for blowing dust. Thirteen visibility sensors read dust density with light beams, a weather radar on a 20-foot tower at the I-10 and SR 87 interchange sees storms more than 40 miles out, and programmable signs spaced every thousand feet can drop the legal speed limit from 75 mph to as low as 35. The system went live for the June 15 start of the 2020 monsoon season and by 2024 ADOT reported it had responded to roughly 50 dust events.
If those signs are lit and your truck can still move, our tech will ask you to reach exit 211 or exit 219 before work starts. ADOT’s own dust storm guidance is to get completely off the paved roadway, turn all lights off including the flashers so nobody follows you off the road, set the parking brake with your foot off the pedal, and stay belted in the cab. The Picacho page covers this stretch in more detail.
I-10 westbound: the Sacaton rest area and the Phoenix side
Going the other way from Casa Grande, the useful landmark is the Sacaton rest area at mileposts 181 and 184, both directions. ADOT’s rest area list identifies it as the only state-operated rest area between Phoenix and Tucson, and it is where a lot of trucks that made it off the interstate end up sitting. It is roughly 10 to 13 miles northwest of the Casa Grande exits, inside the base response zone, and it has car and truck parking and restrooms but no fuel, no food, and no shop. A truck parked there is a truck that needs somebody to come to it.
I-8 westbound: Casa Grande to Stanfield to Gila Bend
The exits count down west from the junction, and they thin out fast.
| Exit | What is there | Zone |
|---|---|---|
| 174, Trekell Rd | South Casa Grande, industrial | Base |
| 172, Thornton Rd | Lucid’s plant sits at Thornton and Peters | Base |
| 169 and 167 | South Casa Grande frontage and farm roads | Base |
| 161 | Closest interstate exit to Stanfield, about four miles north | Quoted plus mileage |
| 151 | Western end of SR 84, and the SR 347 connection toward Maricopa | Quoted plus mileage |
| 144, Vekol Valley Rd | Last exit before the empty stretch | Quoted by the mile |
| 140 to 119 | Nothing. AARoads calls it the longest exitless section of interstate in Arizona | Quoted by the mile |
| 119, Butterfield Trail | Pilot Travel Center #1243: 70 truck spaces, 7 showers, CAT scale, DEF lanes | Quoted by the mile |
| 115, SR 85 | Love’s Travel Stop, 820 W Pima St, Gila Bend: CAT scale, showers, bulk DEF | Quoted by the mile |
There is no rest area anywhere on this run. ADOT’s list puts Sentinel at I-8 mileposts 83 and 84, well west of Gila Bend, and nothing at all between there and I-10. AARoads notes the highway crosses 45 miles of the Sonoran Desert National Monument with no traveler services. Broken down in that stretch, give the mile marker and the direction, say how much water you have, and stay with the truck. See the Gila Bend page for what is at the far end.
Drive times, honestly
These are the driving distances from the Casa Grande base, not response promises. Our tech adds the time to load parts for your symptom and gives you a real arrival window on the call.
| Zone | Distance from the Casa Grande exits | Call-out |
|---|---|---|
| I-10 exits 194 to 208, I-8 exits 178 to 167, Casa Grande yards | 0 to 14 interstate miles | $150 to $350 |
| Sacaton rest area, mileposts 181 to 184 | 10 to 13 miles | $150 to $350 |
| I-10 exits 211 to 226 (Picacho, Red Rock), I-8 exits 161 to 151 | 17 to 32 miles | Top of range plus mileage |
| Maricopa, Coolidge, Florence, Arizona City | 15 to 35 road miles | Top of range plus mileage |
| I-10 exits 232 to 248 (Marana) | 42 to 54 miles | Quoted by the mile |
| I-8 exit 144 to Gila Bend at exits 119 and 115 | 34 to 63 miles | Quoted by the mile |
After hours, weekends, and holidays the call-out becomes $250 to $500 in every one of those rows. Labor stays $125 to $185 an hour. The pricing page has the full repair table, and the roadside call-out estimator will build the range for your exit before you dial.
Where the tech meets you
In a lot if the truck can reach one, on the shoulder if it cannot. A truck stop lot is safer, gives our tech room to work alongside, and does not put anyone in a travel lane, which is why they will always ask first whether you can still move. If you are in a fuel lane, tell the fuel desk a mobile technician is on the way so nobody tries to push the truck. If you are on the shoulder, get the triangles out per your own company’s policy and stay in the cab; the service truck arrives with beacons on and sets up behind you.
Give four things on the call: where (exit, mile marker and direction, truck stop, or yard address), what you are driving (year, engine, tractor or trailer or reefer), what it is doing, and whether you are loaded and on the clock. That is enough to quote the call-out, the labor rate, and the ETA, and to decide what parts ride out. The problems index has symptom-by-symptom pages if you want to narrow it down first, and the roadside breakdown page explains how the call itself runs.
A certificate of insurance is worth asking for from any mobile mechanic, us included. Arizona does not license mobile mechanics, so we claim no state license here or anywhere else. What you should insist on from anyone on this corridor is a quoted rate before anyone drives out, and you get that from us every time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the nearest truck repair to Casa Grande?
Mobile is the nearest, because it comes to the truck. Casa Grande sits at the I-8 and I-10 junction, and a service truck reaches the I-10 exits from 194 through 208 and the I-8 exits from 178 through 167 inside the base call-out zone for $150 to $350 plus $125 to $185 an hour. Nights, weekends, and holidays the call-out is $250 to $500; at night, ask how long the drive out will take before you commit.
What is the only rest area between Phoenix and Tucson?
Sacaton, on I-10 at mileposts 181 and 184 in both directions. ADOT's own rest area list identifies it as the only state-operated rest area between Phoenix and Tucson, which is why so many trucks that limp off the interstate end up parked there. It is about 10 to 13 miles northwest of the Casa Grande exits and it is inside the response zone.
How far apart are the exits on I-8 west of Casa Grande?
Close together for the first 30 miles, then not at all. Going west from the I-10 junction at exit 178 you get 174, 172, 169, 167, 161, 151, and 144, then nothing: AARoads notes that I-8 miles 119 to 140 have no exits, the longest exitless section of interstate in Arizona, and that the road crosses 45 miles of the Sonoran Desert National Monument with no traveler services.
Do you charge more at night?
The call-out is $250 to $500 instead of $150 to $350 after hours, on weekends, and on holidays, and our tech tells you which rate applies while you are still on the phone. Labor stays $125 to $185 an hour with a one-hour minimum. There is no surprise line item on the invoice for a call that came in at eleven at night.
